WelcomeFor some of us, 2009 couldn't have come any quicker, and that is thanks to all the efforts and grounds well made in 2008 for basketball. 2008 is the year where we saw the fall of the old BSA executive administration, the unification of basketball in general, particularly in Gauteng, the rise of the best and biggest basketball website in SA ( www.mybasketball.co.za ), the return of the senior provincial tournament and the rebirth of hope within the basketball fraternity. My passion for this sport cannot be compared to many other things in my life. There was a time back in the days where being a baller was something kids used to aspire towards, those who could not play dressed like a baller and walked around with a ball in their hands, and those who could play, never minded to walk or travel many kilometers to the next court to test their skills just for street cred and recognition. In the last few years, I could not openly discuss my passion with people that are not within the basketball circles simply because they would wonder what drug I was on. Well, now the time is here, where I can proudly say I am a baller once again, and the entire country will look at me and wish they were part of this circle. This is what I was born to do, this is my life, my passion and now I can say it out loud, I AM A BALLER!In 2009, these are the promises I wish to make to the GP basketball fraternity: Professionalism in basketball A well run, successful and exciting GBL, particularly the premier division Functional regional committees with sustainable development programmes Opening of business opportunities to the basketball fraternity A live database of basketball fans and players alike A memorable year of good basketball Welcome to GBL 2009 season, I dubbed it THE REBIRTH. May this be the season to remember for years to come. The season that we can all look back upon and smile; the season that will come to be the reason South Africa will be talked amongst the best in African basketball. Wishing you the best that 2009 has to offer. Cabby Magongwa (DarkChild Productions & Pro Sport Consulting) Important NoticeThere has been a change in the launch date and the featured games. This is due to the unavailability of the venue on the 28th, also, the 1st March was booked for the USSA qualifier games. The USSA games are important to us as they are the feeder to GBL and they create opportunities for students to prepare for the upcoming World Student Games towards the middle of 2009. The GBL games have since been postponed to the 8th of March 2009. This gives teams to finalize their roster and get ready for the much anticipated GBL games. Pro Sport Consulting would like to appeal to the basketball players and fans to get involved in their local structures as these are key to acquiring finance from the government departments and NOP funders. Government has communicated that there is funding available for regional/district association which comply to the requirements for funding, unfortunately, none of the district currently comply and hence no funding basketball this year. If nothing is done about this, we will be sitting in the same situation next year. It is simple to get basketball off the ground. These are the steps we believe will get basketball growing again:Functional district association Compliance with the government funding requirements Good district leadership Development and junior structures Great provincial leadership Good GBL games Excellent feeder structures (Tertiary, High & Primary Schools leagues) Formation of constituted clubs Funding of clubs If the above are well executed, they will lead to the much needed fund injection into basketball. A lot of people know about what basketball needs, now is the time to do it. With all that said, we look forward to a great GBL launch on the 8th of March. Best regards Cabby Magongwa Urban Dance Competition Commercial |
